(Nije loše u ovoj fazi fotografirati (npr. mobitelom) pripremljen dizajn. Bit će ga kasnije lakše slijediti prema fotografiji.)
Figurice sašijte prema niže navedenim uputama.

Na redu je osnova prekrivača:
Prvo spojite kvadrate gornjeg reda šivajući ih onako kako želite da budu na prekrivaču. Sašijte i kvadrate srednjeg reda, a zatim i donji red.
Sad spojite sve 3 dobivene trake: donji brid gornje trake zašijte za gornji brid srednje trake.
Potom gornji brid donje trake prišijte uz donji brid srednje trake.

2 komada 122 x 9 cm (A)
2 komada 105 x 9 cm (B)

Trake B (105 x 9 cm) sašijte duž lijeve i desne strane sašivene prednjice prekrivača.
Trake A (122 x 9 cm) sašijte duž gornje i donje strane prednjice.
Prepeglajte sve šavove i cijelu prednjicu.

FIGURICE
Odrežite višak materijala (posebno u uglovima) i preokrenite. Prepeglajte figuricu pa uskim šavom duž vanjskog ruba zatvorite otvor i još pojačajte cijeli oblik figurice.

PATCHWORK QUILT FOR FUTURE SEAFARERS

The quilt can also serve as a playground – all the “toys” are fastened to it by means of velcro straps, which enables your seafarers to rediscover the world over and over again.

What you need:

9 35×35-cm squares of cotton fabric with various patterns
160×140-cm cotton fabric
120×150-cm wadding fabric
various pieces of cotton fabric for the “toys”
a needle and thread for sewing
scissors
about 10 safety pins
1 m velcro straps

Arrange the 35×35-cm squares into three rows, 3 squares in each, matching the colours and patterns.
Cut out the “toys” using the patterns and arrange them on top of the quilt.
(You might find it useful to take a photo of the arranged fabrics at this point and use it later, when you start sewing.)
Follow the directions provided below to sew the “toys”.

To make the quilt:
First sew the three top-row squares one to another. Repeat with the middle and bottom row.
Then sew the three rectangles one to another, along the long sides – sew the bottom long side of the top-row rectangle to the top long side of the middle-brow rectangle.
Sew the bottom long side of the middle-row rectangle with the top long side of the bottom-row rectangle.
(Do this carefully, observing the square lines.)
Now the front side of your quilt is ready.

Cut the cotton fabric to get:
1 122×122-cm piece
2 122×9-cm pieces (marked A on the drawing)
2 105×9-cm pieces (marked B on the drawing)

Sew the 105×9-cm pieces (marked B) to the left and right sides of the quilt.
Sew the 122×9-cm pieces marked A) to the top and bottom sides of the quilt.
Iron the seams and the front of the quilt.

Place the wadding fabric on a flat surface.
Place the finished front side of the quilt over it and secure with safety pins.
Cut out the excess wadding fabric.

Sew together by making parallel, horizontal stitches 12 cm apart.
(It might be easier to make straight stiches if you roll the sewn parts under the neck of your sewing machine, lest the fabrics should wrinkle.)
Remove the safety pins.
Cut the velcro straps into 2-cm (max.) long pieces. Arrange on top of the quilt, where you want to have the “toys”.
Sew the smaller, “hearier” loop components to the front side of the quilt. Sew the components with tiny hooks to the back side of the “toys”.

Place the front side of the quilt on top of the 122×122-cm fabric piece, front sides facing each other.
Sew along the outer rim, leaving a 10-cm long opening.
Cut off the excess fabric (if needed), turn over through the opening and carefully iron the seams and the corners.
Sew the entire outer rim, including the 10-cm opening).
Place on a flat, hard surface, flatten out and secure with safety pins (they will help keeping the layers from shifting while sewing).

Sew together (front side up) by making parallel, vertical stitches, 12 cm apart.
Arrange the “toys”.

TO MAKE THE “TOYS”
Cut 2 pieces for each of the “toys” using the patterns.
Cut 1 piece of the wadding fabric for each “toy” using the patterns.
Use embroidery threads to decorate the front sides of the sun, the star and the whale and decorate the submarine with the baby’s name (or title, e.g. The Captain).
Sew a hook component of the velcro strap to the back of each “toy”.
Place the front piece of each “toy” on top of a piece of wadding fabric (front side up) and top it with the back piece of the “toy”, front sides facing one another. Sew along the outer rim, leaving an opening.
Cut off any excess fabric carefully, especially in the corners, and turn over. Iron and sew a narrow seam along the outer rim to close the opening and secure the shape of the “toy”.
