A simple delicacy by our grandmothers
9-10 heaping teaspoons of soft wheat flour
1 cup (240 ml) milk
1 pouch vanilla sugar
1 teaspoon rum
a pinch of salt
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
Whisk the egg, vanilla sugar, rum, lemon zest, and cinnamon. Add the flour and milk alternately, to get a thick, uniform mixture.
Peel and core the apples, and cut them into 5 mm thick slices. Dip each slice in the egg mixture and fry in hot oil until both sides are nicely golden.
Remove the fritters and leave on paper towels to soak up the excess oil.
Serve with ice-cream, vanilla sauce or sprinkled with icing sugar.
