When we were clearing grandfather’s old vineyard, I set a few vine trunks aside. They’ll be useful someday, I thought… And so they we…
What you need:
1 wooden board, 5 cm thick, 45 x 45 cm (or more, depending on the girth of the trunks)
several dry trunks (I used 7)
wood glue
a drill
4-5 m heat-treated wire
light-bulb socket with cable and plug
lamp-shade
light-bulb
cutting pliers
sandpaper
pocket knife
wood stain and non-gloss polish – whichever you prefer
Peel the bark from the dry trunks. If needed, smooth them with sandpaper.
Arrange the three thickest trunks on the board. Mark their positions and then drill holes into the board with a wide drill.
Use the pocket knife to narrow the bottoms of the trunks so that they can “rest” in the holes. Apply glue to them and affix them to the board.
Allow the glue to dry.
When it dries, arrange the remaining (thinner) trunk vines. Come up with your own design, taking into account the form of the trunks and the knots on them.
Tie the thinner trunk vines to those on the base using wire. Wind the wire around them several times, and then tighten them firmly.
If you want, stain the base, and then coat everything with the colourless polish.
Attach the bulb socket to the highest trunk, and then pull the cord through the middle of the “installation.”
Attach the shade to the socket and then turn on the lamp.
